"Um... you see, that's the thing. I'm not really sure. I know one or two ways to use it, hence how i knew you were back here. And I know it uses exophysical manipulation to do... whatever it does. That's why it's called the Manipulator."
He paused.
"And no; you're being childish."

"NO, you trying to start an arguement about who is more childish is childish, and im not gonna stoop to your level". Markus went through to the living room and sat down on the sofa. Manipulator. where had he heard that before.

Harun smirked, and instead of following the pouting child, strode to the kitchen and his hand moved to put the kettle on.
But it was already on.
"What the..."
♫ Never gonna give you up... ♫
Harun spun round as the stereo burst into song. The ignition plugs on the hob began to spark erratically, and the lights brightened, then burnt out with an alarming fizz. It seemed every electrical device had suddenly jumped to life. Harun ran outside, past the burnt out lamp in the hallway. The streetlamps were blazing, every house window shone with an unnatural glow, and a few streets away a house had caught fire, the flames rising high above the suburbs.
Harun ran to the car and grabbed the Manipulator. Still on the tracer setting, the screen was occupied by waves upon waves of red dots, lines, shaded sections. Harun ran back into the house and, without looking for Markus, shouted to him.
"Ok seriously, what's going on?"

Typical, Markus had been about to ask the same thing. "I don't know, power surge?" Markus looked out the window and the world outside. this was happening everywhere. Definitely more than a power surge. Markus ran down the hall and grabbed a coat off the stand. Whose coat, he didn't know but now wasn't the time for twenty questions. He looked at the still confused Harun, shook him slightly and pointed at the car. "Lets roll."

Had time been in more abundant supply, Harun would have performed a swift and merciless facepalm. The car doors were opened - the drivers' side by Harun, the passengers' side by Markus' mind - and the pair jumped in.
The manipulator was going crazy now. The readings were not only waves of red dots, but were forming shapes, cross-hatching "V" shapes and billowing swirls sweeping the area. A hurricane of exophysical energy was sweeping the area, and the eye appeared to be hovering over their car; when, much to Harun's confusion, a blue dot appeared on the screen, over their position.
Markus jolted in his seat as if shot in the stomach, and went suddenly limp.
---------------------------------------------------------
Markus found himself in a twisted version of the reality he had once known. Instead of gravity, the world floated, frozen, around him. Harun sat, staring quizzically at the manipulator screen, face a picture of unchanging perplexity. Matter no longer interacted with Markus' body, but he swam around in solids, liquids and gases alike.
And all the while, he was chased by an army, a flock, of eel-like creatures, with tails like cheese-wire and teeth like sawblades.

"WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON" Markus shouted, seemingly to himself. Markus was sure that if he wasn't in what appeared to be some kind of suspended animation, Harun would've responded with a long, boring and complicated answer. He felt bad for Harun for being dragged into this, whatever this was. He looked at his helpless friend, apparently no more than a flesh and blood statue. He let out a deep sigh, whilst still "swimming" away from the eel things. "well ain't this a kick in the teeth"

The swimming away wasn't working, and before long Markus had a bug-eyed beast staring him down. It lashed out with the tail and missed, however the bearing eyes seemed less likely to make such a blunder.

There was nothing else for it. Markus was gonna have to fight. He swung his fist round as hard as he could into the face of the nearest creature. It looked slightly confused for a second or two before its face went back to a picture of pure hate. It darted towards Markus who flung himself to the side to avoid it before grabbing its tail and flinging it as hard as he could into the nearest wall. unfortunately, this had no more effect than the punch did. It seemed regular physical attacks weren't going to help here. Markus outstretched his hand and the nearest creature erupted into a ball of flame. As it disintegrated, all the others seemed to shudder in joint despair, as though they all felt the pain of the one that burned away. Markus took the opportunity to start to start roasting a few of the others. It seemed to go on forever. Every time he got one, another would simply swim forward to take its place. Then as though a rope around him had been pulled on, Markus felt his stomach lurch. "Great. What now?" he yelled.

A sickening crunch and the sound of someone trying to force a milkshake through a belt sander.
And Markus was beside Harun once again. Markus' eyes snapped open.
Harun looked over to him and cursed. "Nice to see you're back with us. What happened? I want to know what blue means." All around the car, the furnishings of the street were collapsing. A street lamp toppled and fell onto a car, whose headlamps blazed, burnt out, and promptly detonated its own tank sending shards of fire and glass across the near vicinity. Harun swerved the car into an underground parking station - darkened, every circuit had shorted - and got out the car. Harun lit a lighter which cast a meagre glow into the deserted station.
It was not long before all sound ceased promptly. The night became suddenly silent, save for the faint hiss of the lighter gas.
Harun took out the manipulator from the car. The screen was calm now, devoid of red dots. "Like it or not, we're going to need this, so get over here."

Markus, who had practically dragged himself out of the car, felt incredibly faint. With that, his legs gave out beneath him and he fell to his knees and vomited. After a minute or two of Markus vomiting and Harun asking stupid questions, Markus got shakily to his feet. "This is going to take some walking off". And with those words, Markus passed out.

Harun turned his head to observe the fallen Markus, cursed again, and thumped the manipulator on the side. It sparked, and from its side emerged an eel. It screeched and slumped to the ground. Harun's heart beat sped as he backed hurriedly away from the creature and attempted to shake Markus back to consciousness, alarmed by the ugliness of the thing.
