The fields of Solenine crystal had been left behind by an ancient civilisation known now, only, as the "Elders". Their Sirians and Kentaurans had long since died out; the Procyans had taken up residence in the infamous Castle. The entrance to the base lay hidden by a Castanet Loop - Shinkei's favourite scavenged technology - beneath the crystalline fields. The pair entered the gate and found themselves in the base.
The surroundings are homely: the entrance hall is short and opens out to a spacious lounge furnished with armchairs and beanbags, centered around an elliptical table patterned with a hyperbolic tesselation. Two generously large sofas rested in the far corner beside three smallish coffee tables. A door to the left led to the laboratories, while doors on the far wall opened out onto both the kitchen and the hallway containing the dormitaries and bathroom.
Janas lay motionless on the furthest sofa, his chest slowly moving in the rhythm of sleep. Anii, Rian and Tusca sat round the table studying the map Attex had made for them.

Zeke walked over and sat down next to Tusca. He studied the map for a few minutes, occasionally looking up at Shinkei, who stood there watching almost lifeless, to see how he would respond. Eventually he stood up, slammed his hands on the table making everyone jump, even Shinkei. "So, whats the plan of attack guys?"

Anii jolted at the sudden outburst, closed her eyes and exhaled. She cast a despairing glance over her shoulder at ShinKei, who reciprocated. "I should have seen that coming," said ShinKei.
Anii rose to her feet. Her hand had been resting on the edge of the map, which promptly rolled into a scroll and fell from the table. "Zeke, there's a network of tunnels left by the first Elders that runs all the way underneath the Castle. Sounds too 'oh, look, a ventilation shaft', I know, but there we have it." Her sullen, sarcastic tone made ShinKei chuckle.
Zeke. ShinKei spoke telepathically to the rebellious youngster. A word please. ShinKei promptly sighed, rubbed his forehead, and passed through the door to the lab, closing it behind him.
Anii sat herself down once again beside Rian. The two of them outstretched the map and began to explain the tunnels to Zeke.

"Ok Shinkei, I know your mad at me but before you start lecturing me, I want to ask you, well, you see, i want you to train me in the elder ways."

"That's not why i called you out here."
Shinkei took a double take.
"The elder ways? How do you know about that?"

"My door was unlocked. Right. So you didn't pick it at all. At least I know youre starting to control your ability," Shinkei sighed. "Fine. But I can't start now. I can't give lessons, but you'll know when you begin to learn."
~hold on~
ShinKei spoke silently to Zeke's subconscious. All Zeke felt was a slight warmness, that comes from the knowledge that everything will be ok.
"Anyway. What I called you out here for."
At that moment, Tusca burst through the door. He and Shinkei spoke silently, staring at each other in a way meaningful only to them. They had clearly articulated an entire conversation, entirely telepathically, when Attex entered through the door the other side of the room. The old man, gnarled by more age than he had actually experienced, made his way slowly to the trio of them. Once he had arrived, Shinkei addressed the group.
"I know this is short notice, but you're all going to need it soon. I've selected the best of you, and I'm going to teach you a way of using exophysics for enormous effect."
Tusca was a child of very few words. He barely talked to any of them, except the Sirians, with whom he communicated silently. But now, he spoke in his gentle, unbroken russian tone.
"The Elders have long known about many potential uses of exophysics. Many are too dangerous for humans to be allowed to know, and many I believe even Shinkei is unaware of. Together we may discover them, but if we do so the secret must die with us. However now, Shinkei and I will teach you a move more powerful than any exophysics you have ever experienced."
Attex nodded sagely. Shinkei once again engaged in deep telepathic conversation with Tusca, then turned to Zeke.
"This will hurt everyone, except you. But you are, undoubtedly, the strongest Kentauran here. You must not, yet, tell the others, but will you help us learn this ability?"

Zeke's jaw dropped. Humility wasn't his strong point. "um, yeah sure, i don't see why not. if you really think you need my help". He looked around at all the patiently waiting faces. He took a deep breath and as courageously as he could, he said to them, "ok, what do you need me to do".

The group appeared delighted, but especially Attex, whose face became the picture of quiet joy. Evidently promted telepathically by one of the Sirians, Attex spoke.
"I have attempted this move before, in the castle. In my young days, when we were experimenting with the wisdom of the elders, we forced two of our slaves, one Sirian, one Kentauran, to perform the move, with me as the Procyan ingredient. However I was inexperienced, and due to my lack of control, the move killed the Sirian and aged me by nearly forty years. I am only fifty-five, however as you may notice, I have the appearance of one nearly one-hundred years old. This was shortly before I began to question the wisdom of the Procyans."
Here Shinkei took over. "The move takes advantage of the fact that the primary purpose of being Procyan is to amplify Baryonic waves. Being Procyan completely protects you from the outside world, however this move requires the Procyan to let his guard down for one instant. This is why it is so dangerous for the Procyan."
Attex resumed his speech. "Kentaurans transmit Baryonic waves, and Sirians recieve them. All you, Zeke, need to do, is transmit one constant Baryonic stream into Tusca."
Tusca spoke up. "This will begin to burn me, but Attex will remove the wave from me, amplify it, and pass it back to you. We will effectively create a feedback loop, where Attex is constantly amplifying the wave that passes from Zeke to me. Then, when the wave becomes too much for Attex, he will let down his CDC, his Procyan armour, and the wave will be released."
Shinkei turned to face Zeke and spoke earnestly. "This experiment will not have any effect here. However in the Procyan castle, it may be devastating. You can work out my plan from there."
